USB HDDs (not flash disks) are actually the same as internal HDDs, so making backups to an USB psp 2000 software update HDD is as safe as making backups to internal disks.
Maybe it is time to move on the USB sticks and away from CD/DVD's anyway.

The hard disk is sata, but the DVD station uses an old-fashioned connection that looks very different even than a pata hard disk. This poses no technical problems, just aesthetic ones.External USB HDDs have a higher failure rate than internal drives.Think I'll tuck.00 away toward the next machine.Posts: 17,133, blog Entries: 2, dVD-writers are rather generic hardware that are using generic drivers, so they shouldn't have any compatibility issues at all.Up till recently a pata DVD-RW shouldnt be more than 25-30.Though it seems that as they are dropping off the market, prices have gone to insane levels (50 for a new pata DVD-RW).Having trouble installing a piece of hardware? My primary use for DVD's now is for archiving old files. We managed to locate a pata Blu-ray drive that we installed in the MSI notebook.Do pay attention to the tab on the back of the drive.
In regard to "Up till recently a pata DVD-RW shouldnt be more than 25-30.
There is also extra possible electrical/driver problems, like the USB- sata/pata converter.
